If you’ve been reading a long for a little while then you know I’ve been talking about my hormonal acne a little bit lately. I wanted to share my experience with Balance by Alani Nu, yes Katy Hearn’s supplement company.
Disclaimer: I had a little too much fun editing these photos in Lightroom, let me know what you think of them…
I know there are probably so many people thinking – “this bitch doesn’t even have acne?” And you’re right – my acne was not bad at all, but I didn’t feel comfortable or confident in my skin and that’s the bottom line, right? In one way or another acne impacts people’s day-to-day, the way they feel about themselves, the way they feel they come off to other people… notice I used past tense.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt this confident in the way my skin looks and feels. It’s a little frustrating to think that after spending years working on my skin with different products that it kind of all came down to my hormones.
I’ve been on birth control since the end of high school/beginning of college. I had been getting periods twice a month (TMI, but this is important). I had awful cramps, and really never know when my period would come and when it would end. At this point, I’ve been on birth control for almost 10 years – a whole decade of not really knowing what my body is like without it. No, I haven’t gone off the pill, that’s what this post is about. I have, though, started to use a legit, magical supplement that has changed my skin in only two weeks. That supplement is Balance by Alani Nu.

What is it?: On the Alani Nu website it’s marketed to, “support hormonal balance, weight management, complexion, and fertility. Enjoy restorative sleep, improved energy levels, and more.” I’ve been following Katy Hearn for years, fitness guru and new mom who has talked about her struggle with acne and her journey with being a mom. So many people swear by this for their acne when they’ve tried everything, and so many people say this helped them get pregnant. I’m not trying to get pregnant any time soon, but knowing this helps with your overall health is important to me.

Why I started: I haven’t tried everything, but I’ve tried a good amount of products over the last year to get rid of the acne around my chin, mouth, and jawline. I tried using multiple different face cleansers to see if maybe I was stripping my face, I stayed on a schedule of exfoliating twice a week, I used AHAs and BHAs to unclog and chemically exfoliate, I used (and still am using) hyaluronic acid to hydrate my skin, I was spot treating and trying not too eat badly or touch my face as much. I did moisturizing and pore refining masks, stress relief masks, more hydrating masks… sheet masks… sunscreen every single day. Nothing was changing. It felt like every time I had gotten a deep zit to settle down I had one or two more right behind it. I couldn’t win.
I went for it. It was pay day and I was like… fuck it. If it didn’t work, I’d still take it for overall health, if it worked it’d be a win. It’s a goddamn win, let me tell you!!! I shit you not, a week into using Balance daily, I had new zits. That was alone a huge difference. Two weeks later my chin is completely cleared up. I’m basically just waiting for the other ball to drop, on edge thinking… did this actually work?!
I know it’s only been two weeks, I like to give products a little longer before talking about them, but I couldn’t hold it in. I love this so much. So to answer the question of this post… yes, yes it does help with hormonal acne. It’s the best supplement I’ve ever tried. Ever.
Price & where to buy: $50 for a month supply, and I ordered mine from their website. Don’t order on Amazon (unless it’s from Alani Nu’s shop themselves), you never know who it’s coming from, and it could be fake.
The absolute only downfall of this, outside of a little bit of an investment, is that you need to take 4 capsules a day. At the beginning it’s like fuck man, but a couple weeks in it’s so easy. Just get it done and you’ll get used to it. Your skin will thank you.
Cheers!

How long did you take it for ? I m on the third bottle and Offcourse it’s very good and I barely get any major acne .. but for long ?? Have you come off it ?? Did the acne come back after you came off it?
I think I’m on my 4th bottle? I 100% had acne if I missed too many or ran out and needed to order more. I actually just stopped taking it recently and switched to seed pre/probiotic and it’s been doing the same thing for me, expect I know I’m not just balancing my hormones I’m actually helping cure the issue of why my hormones were out of whack in the first place. I’ll write a post about it soon!
See that’s my concern as well .. if I miss it for 2 days I get acne .. so that means when I come off these tablets then my acne is going to return .. and the thought of being dependent on medications for a lifetime doesn’t quite sound like a plan 💁🏻♀️
