I’ve been wanting to write this review for a while, but I kept putting it off to make sure I gave this a fair enough go. It’s been over a month, maybe two now.
If nothing else, come look at this beautiful packaging.
I’ve never been the person to fake tan a bunch, I recently just got into it about two years ago. But, I dabbled in it high school stealing my mom’s products. Unfortunately, I felt like it usually looked way too obvious, which usually made me feel wicked self-conscious.
Like everyone else – I’ve tried the Jergen’s Gradual (hate the smell of this so god damn much,) Sally’s Spray (wow, messy,) St. Tropez Gradual In-Shower (why is this a thing, also gross smell,) St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse (I love you,) and now Tan Luxe the Body (TBD). So I’d say I have a good idea about self-tanning, but nowhere near experienced. Keep that in mind while reading this review. Spoiler alert: if you want a deeeeeep ass tan, I’ll just let you know to scroll through the pics and probably check something else out.
Let me start this review off by saying, gotta give myself credit here, that I’m not that bad at self-tanning. I think I’m actually pretty good. The only thing I haven’t mastered if being able to tan my back on my own, I always, always need to ask Matt for help on that.

I went to Ulta after work one day to grab another bottle of the St. Tropez Dark Bronzing Mousse, but wanted to try something else that was easier to use. I hate sitting around for 3 hours waiting to wash off tanner. I hate sleeping in it and having sticky knees probably just as much. I was hoping I’d find something way simpler. When I saw that you don’t need to wash this off I was sold.
I had been seeing this bottle all over Instagram – it’s super aesthetic, so I get it. I picked up the Medium/Dark bottle at Ulta and gave it a try. I’m pretty pale, usually one of the 3rd lightest colors in foundation to give you an idea and I don’t think the Light/Medium would have done anything for me. If you’re around the same complexion I’d recommend the Medium/Dark. The shitty part is there’s only two options – kind of a bummer.

The Packaging – so pretty. It comes in a white tube that is beautiful on it’s own and it’s the outer packaging. Love that it’s no non-sense packaging too, no plastic or any of that shit. The bottle is glass and so minimal, which means I can add it with a bunch of different products for a beautiful addition.
The Smell – It smells great right out of the packaging. I actually love to leave it in there because it keeps that smell, I also don’t want to over-expose it to light. If you have your beauty stuff near a window or something I’d definitely recommend to keeping it in the tube instead of displaying it.
This stuff barely has a self-tanner smell. You mix it with your moisturizer and don’t need to wash it off, and it still doesn’t transfer. It’s a god-send for lazy girls like me. I mix it with a very basic Nivea moisturizer so that as it’s developing it doesn’t change into a weird smell. I’ve used this before work and I didn’t smell like self-tanner at all, expect for once. If you know you’re going to be sweating then you’ll probably smell it more, just like anything else. It’s definitely not a strong enough smell to keep me away from it if that helps.
The results – the reason you’re all here, the results. Well, I have to be honest and say this doesn’t give you the best tan if you’re not consistent. The few times I used it in a row I definitely think it gave a pretty natural bronze to the skin that I really enjoyed, but it also washes off really easily. If you like to be able to completely body scrub your old tan off then perfect, if you like to take your time between tans this will come off. I scratched my arm in the shower and I legit had white scratch marks through the tan.
I don’t think this is realistic for me because I don’t moisturize and use this every single day. No matter how many times I tell myself to do it I know I just never will. Body care is so hard for me to keep up with, moisturizing your whole body is a damn chore. I do think this would be a great in-between used in addition to something similar to St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse.
I want to get some St. Tropez and see if I can use it alongside it as a bronze booster before I say I’d buy it again. I’ll keep you guys updated.

Ugh the packaginnnnggg. I’m a diehard St.Tropez girl, too. (Extra dark because I’m a psychopath, lol.) Have you ever tried Loving Tan or Bali Body? They’re on my wishlist to try. I’m especially curious about the Bali Body one. Great post! & such beautiful photography oh my goodness! ♡
I’ve been wanting to try Loving Tan, and just recently discovered Bali Body and I love the packaging… so you know that drove me in lol. Maybe I’ll have to splurge and try them out!
