I never realized how much I talk about haircare products until I look back at my post. My hair is difficult to deal with most of the time because of how often I need to wash my hair. It’s so fine that I usually have to wash it every other day, so I’ve been trying to find a product to help with the damage I have at my ends, and something that will keep my hair a little cleaner.
I think I found the holy grail, guys.
First off, Olaplex does things a little differently. Their goal is to repair the bonds of your hair, and they do that by using a number system. Here’s how it works with the products I picked up. I got No. 3, 4, and 5 all online at Sephora.
What do the numbers mean? No. 1 and No. 2 are in-salon treatments. I don’t think they sell this for everyone as far as I know, I’m assuming you need a license or to buy it at a specific store.
No. 3 is the Hair Perfector, which is basically just their mask/treatment for chemically treated hair. However, you don’t use it like other hair masks, I’ll get into that later. No. 4 is the Bonding Shampoo, and No. 5 is their Bonding Conditioner. They also have a No. 6 and No. 7, the bond smoother and bonding oil. I’ll need to try these eventually, let me know if you’d like more info on those! I’m always into trying hair oils for my split ends.

How much is it? – I thought I made a mistake when I ordered No. 3 because it was so tiny and I knew I had spent almost $30 on it. It looks like a travel sized product, but for the sake of the blog I kept it and tried it so that you guys didn’t have to. Sorry to tell ya, but you gotta try it yourself. It. is. so good. I’m notorious for using hair masks are conditioner, so I go through masks pretty quick. You can’t use this one like a normal hair mask though.
How do you use them? – As I mentioned, No. 3 isn’t like other masks. If you’re like me and use hair masks as conditioner all the time, this is NOT how to use this one. No. 3 is to be used before shampoo and conditioner. You’re supposed to use it on damp, towel dried hair, but I always get my hair a little wet, ring it out and use it in the shower as I do the rest of my body care. Who’s got time to do it before a shower or to step out of the shower? Not me. I’ll need to try this the way it’s supposed to sometime, but I really can’t see myself doing this before getting into the shower – seems like a mess honestly.
No. 4 can be used like normal shampoo, but I highly suggest using half of what you normally use for shampoo. This shit froths like no other. A little goes a long way, and with it being about 30 bucks a pop, you want to get the most for your money.

No. 5 can also be used the same way you use conditioner. It’s a lightweight formula so I think you can use a good amount without it weighing anything down. Not super fragranced, but I can feel that it worked when I rinsed it out. Make sure to leave it on for 3 mins. Shave, dance, stare at the wall for 3 mins – just make sure you wait before rinsing!

How often? I workout 4-5x a week now so I’ve been trying to only wash my hair 3 times a week. That may sound insane to some people, I know people can go a while before washing their hair, but I can’t because my hair is so fine that it gets so weighed down especially with the build up of salty sweat, grease, and dry shampoo.
For the shampoo and conditioner – 3x a week, for the treatment 1x a week usually after my Saturday morning workout since I take Sundays for rest day. If your hair is super damaged it suggests 2 or 3 times a week, but you’ll fly through the bottle. Even after using it 2x I’ve already gone through at least a centimeter of the bottle.
Does it work? The biggest thing I’ve noticed is that it literally feels like you’ve gone to a salon. You know how your scalp usually stings a little after getting your hair treated/colored at a salon. I notice that every time I use the treatment and the shampoo. I don’t know if that means my scalp is sensitive to it (I haven’t had any other issues,) but I would suggest using a small amount so to not overdo it. If you notice your hair isn’t as soft or smooth then use a little more the next time.
I’ve had multiple friends tell me it’s made their hair smoother and less frizzy as well, and I completely agree. I wouldn’t say I have frizzy hair by any means, but if I let my hair air dry it’s wavy and sometimes unmanageable. Basically it dries and you can’t change it. When I blow dry I feel like my split ends are yelling and I need to straighten my hair to get a soft, silky look. No more need to straighten, this shit smooths everything. It’s actually incredible.
Just go buy it – it’s 100% worth the hype. The best shampoo and conditioner I’ve ever used. It even stepped over my Oribe love, which is huge.
