Quarantine doesn’t seem like it’s going to end any time soon, especially in Los Angeles for me, and I know it’s got us all feeling some type of way about our bodies.
I thought this was the perfect time to review the Bala Bangles that I got back in April or May. I know new purchases are a touchy subject because a lot of people are struggling lately, but I’ve been focusing so much on wellness lately that I needed to talk about these. So, let’s talk about the Bala Bangles.
The Bala Bangles are all over Instagram, and I get it. These weights are so hot that I honestly didn’t want to buy them just because I thought they were too ~trendy~. I was wrong, they’re chic as hell. I mean, these things are called BANGLES! How much cuter is the word bangles that weights?! Doesn’t it just make the workout seem a little more doabe? A little more… delicate? The set is minimal, sleek and comes in a great little zipper bag that you can, for sure, repurpose.
I had some really old weights, the ones that are filled with sand. They had rusty metal clasps on them, and so much random shit stuck to the velcro. I honestly think they’re from the 80s. Not to mention, my grandparent’s last name was written in sharpie on them. For what reason, I’m not sure. Apparently my grandma was real protective of her ankle weights at some point in her life. Those weights are old, old. I figured, after trying to do some workouts with them on and dying (they’re 3lbs) that I should treat myself to a new set. Insert Bala Bangles – hello Instagram for low-key ruining my life and my budget.

Let’s get into the deets:
When purchasing I opted for the 1lb weights (they have 1/2lb, 1lb, and 2lb options I believe on multiple different websites) – seems silly I know, but the 1lb actually do add a lot to the workout, which I was pleasantly surprised by.
Price – $49, 1lb
I know. $50 for ankle weights seems a little steep and I agree, but spoiler alert I’m still recommending them. These are notoriously backordered on pretty much every site that supplies them, so I suggest buying them ASAP. The 2lbs go up a bit in price at $65.
If you don’t want to spend the $50 right away you can always use QuadPay and do 4 payments of $12.25 and build credit at the same time on their website. I’ve used AfterPay and Affirm multiple times and highly recommend if you know you can be responsible enough.
Is it worth it?
Short answer – yes. Longer answer – yes, because… I love how often they get used, and how versatile they’ve become.
I use them on both my wrist, over my hands, over my ankles. They easily go on and off with the velcro and it doesn’t take my time or effort to work with them. No trying to get the velcro through the metal loops, for example. Plus, they surprisingly don’t get dirty quick. I have the sand color and when they came in I thought I messed up, but I haven’t washed them yet after months of use and I don’t see any streaks or scuffs. They’re durable, compact, and just really great looking.
Would I buy again?
100%. Honestly one of the biggest reasons if that I really enjoy how aesthetically pleasing they are. I know, sounds materialistic and lame, but anything that helps a workout happen is worth it to me, you know? It’s the same mentality as getting a new workout set to get going. These are just consistently chic, and sleek.
Have I recommended them?
I have, and will again. I really enjoy them. I think they’re great quality. I have one of the lightest colors they offer and they still don’t look dirty even though I frequently just cuff them over my palms for Melissa Wood Health’s arm workouts, so my grubby little fingers are all over the outside while sweating and they’re still perfect. Love, love these.

I really enjoy having these, I keep them on my desk and I never feel like I need to put them away. I use them so often anyways that I like to keep them out for easy access, but they’re just so aesthetically pleasing. You can wear them to make a workout a little more challenging, to walk the dog, or just walk around the house while you’re doing errands.
They took forever to ship, but I’d definitely buy again. Should I try any other bala products?
