I know you guys love when I talk about Gisou products, they’re my most popular posts here on K.Co so I thought I’d share my thoughts on the Gisou Propolis Primer today.
Gisou was nice enough to send me the Propolis Primer right before they launched at Sephora, so it was a nice surprise since I normally don’t heat style my hair a ton and probably wouldn’t have tried it for a while. Let’s get into the deets.

I’ve been using this now for a couple of weeks now and I got to say I really enjoy this stuff. This primer is subtle, but it’s a really nice addition to my haircare routine.
For reference – I have fine hair so it’s easily weighed down usually, but I never feel like this does that to me.
Packaging
Who doesn’t love aluminum packaging? I feel like it’s been a huge hit lately between hand creams and face masks. I see them alllllll over Instagram. I get it, if I had a product out right now I’d be making one in this packaging too. It’s casual, easy to photograph in a flatlay, easy to throw into your makeup bag or purse, and even looks good in an old candle jar if you want it upright. There’s no going wrong, plus it can be recycled.
Just a warning: if you’re going to cut the tube in half once you get to the end use a spoon or something to scrape out the rest so you don’t cut your fingers!

Scent
All Gisou products smell heavenly. The signature floral honey scent is so delicious. The primer is very similar, but just a little bit more powdery than the other products. It honestly kind of reminds me of Tresemme conditioner or something you’d grow up using. It’s floral and sweet and beautiful, but nostalgic for some reason.

Texture
I was pleasantly surprised by the texture of this primer. I thought because it was a primer it would be grippier, and richer. I thought it was going to come out paste-y honestly, and thank god it didn’t. Turns out it’s WAY thinner than I thought it was going to be. It’s almost like a leave-in conditioner texture. Very lightweight and easy to coat your hair without feeling heavy.
Once it dries into your hair you can definitely feel that there’s a bit of a give to your hair, but not in the way you get when you use a wave spray. It’s subtle, but makes you feel like you have salty hair in the best way possible. So it ends up being really nice before curling your hair to make sure your waves don’t fall out immediately, but it definitely won’t hold all night.
This primer is said to diminish frizz, reduce drying time, and ensure optimal workable hold upon use of heating styling tools (according to the back of the tube). I agree that it gets rid of frizz, I love using it on days where I feel like my hair just needs a little control and hydration, but I don’t want to use the oil. I’d like to see how this works on different hair types. Not sure how much it reduces drying time since I usually use it when I’m blow drying my hair.
Overall I enjoy it, I like that my hair is protected when I am drying it, straightening or curling, even though I don’t do those things that much. It’ll be nice to see how much more often I use it when we return to work and I’m doing my hair more often!
Let me know below your experiencing using it!
